It has to do with Data controls that don&amp;#39;t render an ID for the parent container. The Repeater and ListView controls fall into this category.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Looking at the source code, it looks like an attempt is made to find the element in the dom tree or its parent container element or if was registered as an async postback control. If these fail, a full postback occurs.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;You might want to post this on connect.microsoft.com&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;In web application world you have to support everything and don&amp;#39;t whine when a user uses IE, Firefox,opera or even Safari support all... Every browser has it&amp;#39;s ++ and --. It&amp;#39;s terrible but that&amp;#39;s how it is, a garage is also not suitable for every car, some are longer and bigger, will you tell the people then to buy a VW when they have a Hummer, no you change the garage to support their car.&lt;/p&gt;
