&lt;p&gt;If you're installing the .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 on an NT-based machine (NT, Win2K, XP, Windows Server 2003) then you'll need to have MSI 3.0 installed.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;If you're installing the .NET Framework 2.0 Beta 2 on an 9x-based machine (98, 98SE, ME) then you'll need to have MSI 2.0 installed.
