re: U.S. education sucks, and other observations

Teaching is extraordinarily challenging in this "electric" era. Make no mistake... more so now than in the past. All of society is undergoing massive change and we are under a full blown media assault...26.5 hours a day. The trouble is, we've been bought off on all fronts. Read Marshall MacLuhan "Understanding Media" (1964), or view some postings of him on You Tube.

We live in an ocean of programmed media with explicit and embedded messages... extended and "always on" to batter and better butter our brain into absolute whipped numbness and narcissism. The overly thick bureaucratized brick and mortar public school system with its subject divisions and diversions is fascinatingly obsolete and PLANNED to remain STATIC while creating APATHY and three ring circus stupidity in spades. It does a FANTASTIC job of programming and dumbing down its little and big citizens (willing operatives) who do NOT think or perceive of our oppressive (cleverly designed and induced) reality "critically". We are set up to be a part of this mess, and no amount of tax money will change this reality, unfortunately.

But, for the time being, if you must teach to survive or feed your family, do it with loving the "Art" of teaching. This takes away the pain, temporarily...until you can get out!

Scary thing is, twitter is still growing, even now, years after the posting of this blog, and I STILL don’t get it. Is there something wrong with me? Am I like technologically disabled or something? Should I see a doctor?

Performant is not a synonym for efficient. Race cars are performant, but they are not efficient. If high efficiency cars are efficient, why wouldn't high performance cars be performant?

I'm sorry you've become another victim of Micro$oft, it happens.

And while most people flaming in these comments are citing your install procedure or experience, I don't have either. My new laptop came with Vista pre-installed and no re-install CD (It's apparent that the microslouch team has tightened security by not including CDs that could be used for *gasp* installing Vista on a machine). Anyway, from the FIRST time I tried to boot it up its gotten a BSOD (ugly BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH) and EVERY single time since. The laptop was practically useless (but a great paperweight, and I thought they were joking).

Did I press the power button the wrong way? Go ahead, tell me I did.

Linux, FTW.

I can tell you from a sys admin user of Salesforce, they suck. And being a "sales-driven" company as opposed to a technology driven one may seem good for short-sighted investors, but clients will get sick and tired of being lied to and suffering thru SalesForce's buggy software. They over promise and undeliver. They are not a Google that doesn't need any tech support. Their service sucks, and people will start finding other alternatives that aren't that much more than SalesForce costs now. And it will be well worth the conversion costs.

This is part of a trend away from real content. Its so much easier to create a couple 100-level videos than it is to create an actual article that deals with a more advanced topic.

When I saw Ken's post, I was tempted to comment, but since I have never found these MSDN landing pages useful, I figure I don't have much that could be considered constructive criticism.

I could suggest that if choosing to keep what is there, something needs to be changed so that it doesn't just look like another ad banner ;)

But you *are* now a part of the *face* of Microsoft. It doesn't matter if you ever evangelize Windows or develop a Windows app. You'll be representing the company now, and all that it offers to the community (including Windows), and it would certainly be strange to see you post a "Why I hate Windows today" type post with the passion and energy you had a year ago.

"I hate Windows. I seriously do." - That was your comment in that post. I've not seen anyone in the mothership so passionately "bash" their flagship product no matter what they do within the company.

I personally don't think they hired you just to develop web apps. Looking at folks they've hired from the community over the past few years, they tend to go on and do much more.

Again, good luck on your new venture.
