Puhh … das war die erste Woche. Die erste Woche bei Microsoft in Unterschleißheim als Developer Evangelist. Die einen fragten ob es ein sozialer Auf- oder Abstieg sei, die anderen sagten schlicht, dass ich die "Blue Pill" genommen hab. Ich sage nur: WOW! Genial! Ich freu mich auf die nächsten Wochen, Monate, Jahre …!

No Google in 2010!

Yesterday we (Ingo, Clemens, Masoud and me) had a very emotional discussion on why Google is so successfull -or how some people say- why Google rocks. To be honest, Google is still one of my favorite search engines, but I really believe that no one will use Google in 5 years or so. The Google search engine is not a rocket science. - "Everyone" can build such a search engine. Google has just a good brand (and maybe a good business model) today - and I'm not sure if this brand will survive the next years. Have a look on what Google is doing since months: they invest in new markets (Gmail, Google Maps, Froogle, ....). Will Google really be our search engine in 5 years?

What about the German company Web.de? You will know Web.de as a very good web mailer today. But 5(?) years ago, we knew Web.de as a web catalog like Yahoo. That was their starting market. Maybe Google will be still there in 2010 but they will be not our search engine number one any longer. Ask the people of Altavista, they also can tell you a story about that ...

How to be prepared for future technologies? (#7)

Today we are waiting for the .NET Framework 2.0, Indigo, Avalon and many other technologies. The big question is: should we really wait? For small and short-running projects we may not. But what about a 3-year project? What can we do today to be prepared for future technologies? Should long-running projects be built on the .NET Framework 2.0 today? This session is intended for all who are involved in software development projects and are interested in experiences of others and their answers to the question how to manage the future.

.NET Migration Strategies (#20)

This year Microsoft has cut the free support for Visual Basic 6 and this is just the beginning of the end of these "old" technologies. While there are some white papers concerning how to migrate from classic VB to VB.NET, most questions are still open until today: How can companies migrate their hundreds of applications to .NET? What's the effort? Is migration or replacement the better approach? How much training need developers? This session is intended for all who have switched, are switching now or plan to switch tomorrow and are interested in the whole migration process, not only on a specific technical issue.

Do you work with pure XML?

These days we are preparing the conference program for the German Basta! 2005. The advisory board is voting for each session propsal, so do I.

There was a pure XML session and I set it to red because in the last 18 month of my professional life, I did not meet anyone who works with XML directly. Of course, they use SOAP but not XML ...

A few days later Christian "XML" Weyer enters the room and ... no wonder ... votes for green. Because XML is (still) important in his opinion.

I'm really a friend of XML and spend more than 3 years day for day with XML and XSL. After this job, I thought that I was prepared for the world outside because XML is sooo important and I'm sooo experienced! But I was wrong.

So, please help us to find out: Do you really work with pure XML? Imagine you are able to visit 10 session in 2 days:

Do you need an XML session for your daily work?
