Hunting Godzilla in .NET...

1&1 web hosting aims for new markets

1&1 wants to serve you and your company.

Who on Earth is 1&1 ?
1&1 is a part of United Internet, a public company with 3,500 employees. Previously, we only served large providers in the USA, but now 1&1 is thrilled to be serving you directly. We have 2.5 million loyal customers, 4 state-of-the-art Data Centers and industry leading Connectivity.

(taken from their website)

What are they offering?

  • Hosted on I/O optimized own 1&1 Linux version
  • 500 MB web space
  • 5,000 MB/month traffic
  • Advanced live site statistics
  • 5 FTP accounts
  • PHP3 & PHP4
  • MySQL
  • 50 POP3 e-mail accounts (50 MB each)

Why am I talking about it?

Yes, you read right.  No asp.net hosting (that's free), but its worth trying and its free for 3 years with no obligations.  I've signed up and now I am just waiting for everything to get setup till I can properly play around with their control tools (which look pretty good so far).

Check it out at: 1&1

Hmm, that must be just for the promotional package. In the admin they actually give a different site location for users in the uk :p

1and1 are not newcomers to the ISP world but are to the US market. This promotion (which ends Jan 14 !!!) is only to promote their company in the US and Canada, thus the restriction. They are a large, known entity in Germany, etc, so giving away their product there would be like MS giving away Windows 2003 in order to "get their name out" in the US.
