Internet Explorer Security Update 832894

So I installed the latest patch (832894) for IE, especially since it was critical and I don't wish to be spoofed in my own browser.  It installed smoothly like any other Windows Update, BUT now I have a problem.

If I right-click on a link, I can no longer Open in New Window.  A new window is opened but from there it freezes, title bar and borders but that's it, no content-filled center.

So now the day has finally come and Mozilla Firebird is my default browser, where I can open a link in a new window or even in a new tab.  Sweet software for just being a tech preview.

UPDATE: Thanks to a comment left by Aaron Selvan, who pointed me to this support link; my IE problem is solved.  I had to re-register Oleaut32.dll.

I think I was just looking for an excuse to switch to Firebird.  I still use both, but its just a battle on who gets the Default Browser spot.

Ctrl+click and/or middle click a link in Firebird to open in a new tab and you'll forget all about new windows. :)

But that doesn't exactly help the IE problem, I know. Work-around != fixed. I've had that problem before but I can't remember what caused it. I've had some VERY strange IE problems over the years, including one that had me installing a beta version that I downloaded from a warez site in order to keep from having to re-install Windows.

At least you have the ability to roll back to a previous version if all else fails, right?

I just did the same thing, before the patch came out...the KB article recommending that we type our own URLs in the address bar was the last straw. I mean, come on, that's the most basic functionality of the Web.

I've been having another IE problem...view source wasn't working for a while. Same with file save. Happened at work and at home so I figure an update did it. Now it seems to work so maybe another update fixed it. Really tired of this kind of instability.

On Firebird, not only does view source work, it's syntax highlighted. Great browser in general, snappy and I love the tabbed browsing.

How embarrassing to see "Interenet" all over the place :p

Hmm, yeah that does seem like an odd problem. Thanks for the Ctrl+Click tip. Very nice. Yes Tabs are very cool.

Dennis:
I ran into that problem with no View Source myself. Luckily I was tipped off by one of my pals what the cause was. You have reached the maximum capacity of your Temporary Internet Files. If you clear them, you will be able to View Source again.

There's probably a website somewhere dedicated to exposing weird IE problems...

Oh, cool! Ok, I'll try to keep up with basic maintenance a little better :)

Still like my tabbed browsing though.
