For me, it's not a very interesting concept, it's just the new wave of consoles, so that includes by definition all three. Hi-def TVs may be just beginning to sell in Europe but here in the US they're getting mainstream and are relatively cheap. Anyway, you make an excellent point about the Wii games being cheaper making people buy more. On the other hand, I don't think $300 is a prohibitive price for a console. If you look at the prices of past consoles (adjusted to take inflation into account), the 360 is right in the price range where all the successful consoles of the past were at launch.

Now if you look at a gaming PC of equivalent power, *that* will have a prohibitive price if you use it only to play...

Some games are too short for their price, that's true, but it's not an exclusive of 360 games and certainly not a general thing: just look at Oblivion or the Half-Life 2 package...

The thing with the leap in graphics is that it is asymptotic. It takes increasingly more power to get the same improvements. So sure, the leap between PS2 and PS3 or between Xbox and 360 will not be as impressive as the leap between PS1 and PS2, and you can bet that the next one is going to be even less impressive.

Feel free to disagree on the gamerscore and achievements making people buy more, the facts are that the 360 has a very attachment rate, probably in part because of that. That's certainly what I see around me: all my friends who own 360s really care about their gamerscore and try to compete with each other.

I agree that the extra content stuff may go too far at some point, but this will be regulated by simple economics: if there's no value, people won't buy it (see Oblivion horse armour vs. Mehrune's Razor, one sells the other one doesn't) and you certainly won't so there's no real harm done. Consumable contents in my opinion won't fly because it will cause outrage.

Is it possible to use Windows Authentication but have the role based management services of ASP.NET manage the roles. In other words we want to authenticate the user by their login on the network (intranet implementation), but do not want to create Windows based roles specifically for this web application.

I'm having trouble finding information on this.
