Rob Chartier on home automation

Rob Chartier has turned his home into a geek golden palace. I’ve loved the idea of this stuff for a long time now, but I don’t think it’s quite there yet for the really fun stuff. My fridge needs an IP Address durnit. :)

If you shell out between 8 to 16 grand there are a number of fridges with IP Addresses, built in internet, connections to online recipe sites, and one that I know of that will order food for your from online grocery stores when you start to get low on stuff and you've approved the list it wants to send on your behalf.

Mix that with the freezer/oven/refrigerator they just came out with (not energy star compliant, mind you) and you can pop your meals in when you leave in the morning (frozen), have them automatically cook before you get home, keep them warm in case your a bit late, and in the case you are really late, cool the food back down to a fridge temperature so the food doesn't go bad.
