Visual Web Developer 2005 Won't Install

You know, I'd love to try out the new Beta1 of Visual Web Developer, but I can't. Setup just yells at me and stops.

You see, i had the May CTP installed previously, so I uninstalled it before running the setup. However I get this message from the setup:

---------------------------
Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition Beta - English Setup
---------------------------
Setup has detected that previous versions of the following product(s) are currently installed.
Uninstall these applications before continuing with Setup. For more information, see the
readme.htm file. This file can be found at the root of the DVD or CD1, on the Web download site
for the product, or on a network share, depending on how you install the product.

	- Visual Studio .NET Prerequisites - English
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

There is no entry in the "add/remove programs" control panel with this name. So this dialog is not extremely useful to me. As for the readme.htm file, i have no idea where to look for this hypothetical file.

UPDATE

Wally helped my fixed this first problem. However, now it just gets farther before it dies. Now I just says that the download of the "Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta" component failed. With no reason given. How Useful for me...

Been there, done that, fixed it. Go thru the registry and manually clean it up. That resolved my problem.

Andy,
Care to share was was necessary to get things close to working? I plan on installing Beta 1 when it shows up in subscriber d/l's. I'm creating a Virtual PC 2004 VM running XP SP1a to hold the install.

Download and install .NET FX 2.0 Beta separately. Then download and install Visual Web Dev from:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/e/1/6e1e9b98-928c-45f0-b44b-39f205090446/vwdsetup.exe

(I used HTTP Fiddler to sniff where the 2MB installer was getting the actual 50MB of files from so I could burn them to a CD).

I'm running into the same problem but my newbie nature doesn't know where to find these things.

Glad you were able to get over this bump. In future releases, I think we're looking at whether we can just help automatically uninstall this stuff. It's terribly frustrating no doubt when we tell you to uninstall something and give no means to find it.

Did you guys that had the download problem ever check if the BITS service was running? I too struggeled a while with getting the download to start, but when I eventually degraded myself to pushing the help button, the solution was right there on one of the first lines.

For Visual Studio Prerequisite problem, open a cmd prompt and type the following:

I just encountered the same problem, and the

fixed the problem and let the installation finish running.
Thanks!
