SP2 IE and about:mozilla

So one change in IE that came with sp2, that I haven't seen anybody comment on, is that about:mozilla is gone. Before I installed sp2, i had my homepage set to about:mozilla because it gave a nice colored window as the default. But now all it does it show the word "mozilla" on a white background. If you are annoyed that your nice default html is no longer around, there is a little trick that not many people know, which is that you can put any html you want in an about url, and IE will show it. So just write a simple html page that displays any color/design you want and set that text as your homepage.

Can you provide an example of this? I assumed you meant something like about:<body>Welcome</body>, but this shows me an "Action Canceled" page.

Oh yeah, that about:<html here> doesn't work anymore... But you can still create your own about: urls, just add them to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs (and yes, mozilla is gone).

Ya, you can't seem to type them in anymore, but you can set them as your homepage and it'll work when you just start IE.

Have you tried:

res://mshtml.dll/about.moz

This is what about:mozilla really points to. Maybe it's still in there, even if the about: link isn't hooked up any more...

Oh, and it's probably worth pointing out that Firefox (0.8, I think) has this for about:mozilla:

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced. But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird. The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire and thunder upon them. For the beast had been reborn with its strength renewed, and the followers of Mammon cowered in horror.

I no longer use IE as my default browser, but to make things come up quick, I editted the shortcut for the quick launch bar entry for IE. Just add -nohome to the end. This causes IE not even to load about:blank. After you launch IE, hit ESC and see what happens.

So are you working for Microsoft now? So your "so speach" would lead me to believe.

Oof.

And I'm not usually one to adopt communal phrases either... I guess this one is just too addictive.
