First let me begin by assuring you, this is not an April Fool’s joke . Exciting news! Scott Guthrie announced today that we have released the source code for ASP.NET MVC 1.0 under the Ms-PL license , an OSI approved Open Source license with all the rights that license entails. You can download the Ms-PL licensed source package from the download details page here . Just scroll down and look for the file named AspNetMvc1.Ms-PL.source.zip . My baby is growing up! The source for ASP.NET MVC has long been available up at http://www.codeplex.com/aspnet . The source has been "Available" so I usually call this "Source Opened" as opposed to "Open Source." ASP.NET MVC has been "Free" as in " Gratis " since it started. That means, "Free like Beer." As ScottGu just blogged about moments ago , today, it's also " Libre " as in "Free like Speech." Two weeks ago at MIX we released ASP.NET MVC 1.0. ASP.NET MVC is a free, fully supported, Microsoft product that enables developers to easily build web applications using a model-view-controller pattern. ASP.NET MVC provides a “closer to the metal” web programming option for ASP.NET. It enables full control over HTML markup and URL structure, and facilitates unit testing and a test driven development workflow.
