Macromedia and .NET
Two passions of mine are .NET and Macromedia, I would love to see marriage of the two. Don't get me wrong, Macromedia do offer .NET support in there products (Dreamweaver supports ASP.NET and Flash Remoting can be run through .NET are two key examples). However I do wonder about the following.
- ColdFusion on the CLR, New Atlanta are doing it, why not Macromedia? Using COM to mix it with .NET just won't cut the mustard for developers when native integration is on offer.
- Flex on the CLR, its certainly planned but when? Flex runs on J2EE and all talk is on that platform, not sure that will grab a .NET developers attention. Also while Longhorn and Flex have different end goals they will certainly target the same set of developers, I feel its important to start hold there attention now.
Update. Jesse has an interesting post on Flex/Laszlo. Of interest is that Laszlo intended to support other platforms (the CLR is they key example) and they doubt that Macromedia will support other platforms. Again this is will not help a .NET developers mind set if they are considering using Macromedia technologies.
