Ben Forta on CFMX vs ASP.NET

Macromedia's CF evangelist Ben Forta has a series of articles comparing CFMX to PHP, ASP.NET etc. I see a few things wrong with Bens look at ASP.NET, largely they focus around J2EE or .NET and Microsoft and .NET.

Starting with J2EE or .NET. Its true enough ASP.NET is CLR bound and Macromedia's CFMX is JVM bound so its making the choice, however CFMX has all the potenial to run on both. So while CFMX from Macromedia is JVM bound, as a language it runs nicely on both.

Microsoft and .NET. While ASP.NET is considered a Microsoft technology and therefore Windows bound you only need to consider Mono to know thats not the case.

With answers on these two points its makes Bens arguements for CFMX over ASP.NET not quite as clear, if your future is not Microsoft or Windows then ASP.NET still factors.

Just to clarify, you really should be saying CF (ColdFusion) above, not CFMX (ColdFusion MX server). Similar to how the Zend engine isn't PHP, but PHP runs through the Zend engine.

Thanks for that, however, Ben is comparing CFMX not CF as as a language. If he was then the point on CF on .NET would take into account Blue Dragon, as it happens Ben is talking about JVM only...a la CFMX. So I should be saying CFMX not CF.
