The Truman effect
On TV the other night they showed the "Truman Show" (if you have never seen this movie, go and see it, what follows is a spoiler). In the film Truman leads his life, unware that the place he lives and the people he knows are all false, he lives on a TV set and every single person around him is an actor. Truman lives inside of a reality TV show and for a while he is unware of it. Earlier in his life Truman found the girl of his dreams but the TV show warranted that a chosen actress be his wife and that actress was not the person he had chosen. Driven through out his life to find this girl it started his ambition to leave the town and find her, Truman effect 1. During the movie you saw the vast number of mistakes that the TV company makes, from props falling out of the sky, rain showers that that fell only on Truman (and followed him when he moved), "dead" actors invading the set, Truman's car radio picking up the actors radios and Truman seeing production staff behind props and sets. The list of gaff's is impressive and rather than make Truman suspect he was on TV it actually only fed his desire to leave, Truman effect 2.
So in the real world Truman effect 1 is driving a person in a direction that he will oppose to the point he goes in the other direction, putting faith, trust and respect in that person means working with them to let them achieve what they desire and will be best for you in the end. In the movie had they gone with Truman's choice then they could have worked with her (although she did try and make Truman see his world for what it was) and kept Turman happy.
Truman effect 2 is your loss of faith in substance due to the mistakes around it. In our world this is your customers lost faith in your product due to defects, the more the defects the more they loose faith and in the end leave your product behind.
