I had a great time this morning with Sam and Mai-lan from the IIS and Windows Media Server teams. Together we demo'ed some cool new stuff in ASP.NET including: Expression Media Encoder asp:Media UpdatePanel and UpdateProgress AutoCompleteExtender and TextWaterMarkExtender asp:History - Finally control over the back button! Profile Service Bit rate throttling in IIS7 - which allows web site vendors to control the wasted bandwidth due to drop off while still preserving a great initial experience. Live Streaming with Windows Media Server - this is a very cool demo where we use Expression Media Encoder to encoded some video live from a webcam, push it to a WMS server which then makes it available to HUGE numbers of folks for live viewing.. anyone...

I had a great time putting together the slides and demo for this talk… It should be fun one where I show off how developers and designers can work together to build a compelling web site…. Today two of the products I have spent a bunch of time ship! .NET Framework 3.0 ships! With the 3.0 version of the .NET Framework I can look forward to the day when every application will offer compelling user experiences that that fuse the seamless, immersive nature of TV with the power and productivity of windows applications. These applications will communicate securely and reliable between each other and to a huge array of cloud services offered by a variety of vendors. The business logic for these applications that spans client, server and data tier are no longer locked in code but is accessible, flexible and easily understood by information workers. Finally, I can safely log on to a wide range of services without having to remember any...
Preparing for my talk at TechEd Europe gave me an excuse to play around with the animations support in the ASP.NET AJAX Toolkit … Very cool stuff. UPDATE: I posted the full VS project here: picturebox.zip enjoy! I wanted to write a control that allowed the user to scroll through a list of background images… The trick here is that I wanted the images to smoothly animate across, have a little bump effect then fad slightly… Luckily it was very easy to do… Basically I set up a dev with all three images in line, and then used some client side script keep up with which image is displayed. Finally I used the animation support to make it look cool. Step 3 is clearly the fun part… I have attached some the project file so you can feel free to pick it...
