a new 4GL company wants to take on java AND .net?

yeah, it sounds a little obtuse and everything, but there's a new company who's decided that neither java nor .net are reliable, "easy-enough" platforms to facilitate 4GL applications.

first quote that's bs-laden and, in my opinion, rather offensive to those of us already using these tools is this one: "i say C# and Java are too complex to write business applications." my bsometer went nuts when i read this. apparently, those of us who are using either - or both - of these platforms have proven this guy (the CEO of the company, i might add) to be totally full of it.

second quote - "There's been a lot of 4GLs … but none of them have achieved mass market adoption to have tools and capabilities around them." uh hello BEA, WebLogic, .NET, COM+? seems to me that the market is somewhat fluttering with these tools, that have been proven effective.

finally - its obvious to this author that Genero (superior dumb name for a company) is in this thing for the cash - the price tags - $400 per user and $15,000 per CPU (i'm assuming for the application server).

gimme a stinkin break. the market has no room for you, so get out of it.

Slight mis-quote here. It was John Fowler of Sun - not the CEO of Genero - who said "There's been a lot of 4GLs...but none of them have achieved mass market adoption to have tools and capabilities around them.".

Java and .NET are not 4GLs, the definition of which is an "application-specific language".

I guess David Mitchell Smith and Yefim Natis of Gartner Group are also
bullshitters when they say US companies wasted over a billion dollars on
failed J2EE projects.
As long as there are lemmings like you guys there will always be a market
place to clear up after your miss.
