this can't be a good idea!

i thought “i want a famous face” was bad enough when the teenager received lyposuction to remove unwanted pounds of skin from her body (after, of course, she shed over 150 pounds herself and had saggy... stuff). but this device, known as the rc gastron, just doesn't seem to be a great idea. what's going on here? swallow a little balloon and make it swell up inside your stomach? what are they thinking?

ah - what an excellent point indeed! that would indeed explain the other relatively impossible-sounding items in the thinkgeek.com email i received today.

What they are thinking is this:

For a child that is severly overweight (over 100 pounds) but is young, taking drastic measures, like gastric-bypass surgery where they take out portions of the stomach, has too much long-term issues. The child needs to loose the weight quickly to have a normal life, but shouldn't have a one-ounce stomach for life.

So they could put the child on a diet, but loosing 100 pounds would take a few years to do it right (at 1 lb/week it is two years), so they had to come up with a new plan.

It actually works. It isn't for girls that want to go to the prom 10 pounds lighter, it's for kids that could die but once down to the right size, can live without any long term side effects.
