Winnipeg eh?

I see Winnipeg has an IT user group - cool :O) (http://weblogs.asp.net/brucecowper/archive/2004/11/17/258925.aspx)

What is the job market for webby people like there? I have this impression of Manitoba being mostly farming, mainly because of my cousins who are ranchers Avison Ranchers http://www.avisonranchers.com/ live there.

Winnipeg is already on my list to visit (one of afformentioned cousins, JP is getting married in August 05) but is also on list of possible places to move to (along with Calgary and Vancouver). House prices in Manitoba are crazily low it seems compared to UK and it is always easier to move to a place where you already know someone.

Scary cold temperatures aside, it certainly looks a nice place. :O)

Speaking as someone from Winnipeg, it is a lovely place to live. If you don't mind -40C and windy, and/or mosquitos. Cheap, cheap (actually, legendarily cheap people) to live. Lots of insurance/finance companies to work for (Great Waste of Life has it's headquarters there).

A couple of good consultancies, as well -- Joel Semeniuk (RD for the area) at http://www.imaginets.com and John Thistlethwaite et al at http://www.apptius.com. A *little* behind the times at some things (I suspect PowerBuilder is still popular), though.
