dotText with www.dotnetnuke site
Thursday, February 26, 2004 12:36 AM

I wanted to set dotText up on solo2.org this evening, but I did not want to set it up as I had on DnnCart.com and soloperformance.com with seperate subdomains blogs.dnncart.com and blogs.soloperformance.com. I wanted to set it up to be www.solo2.org/blogs/. Well, DotNetNuke has some HTTPHandlers that allow you to link to it's tabs by name, for example http://www.solo2.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=27 and http://www.solo2.org/project z/default.aspx  both link to the same page. So that throws a kink into the www.solo2.org/blogs link as it throws a few errors when you try to reference the default.aspx page in the dotTextWeb directory (setup as a virtual directory for www.solo2.org/blogs)

To get around this I did the following, copy the default.aspx page in the dotTextWeb directory and make a desktopdefault.aspx file. So that appears to be working correctly, but I still have a few other bugs to work out. I'll post more on those later. This is really so I can remember and document the changes I have to make to get this to work.

UPDATE:
If you add <Clear /> to the HTTPHandlers section of the web config file in the dotTextWeb directory you don't have to copy the default.aspx file to desktopdefault.aspx. I didn't think the clear was working, you just have to make sure to put <Clear /> and not <clear />. I'm running into a few issues I think with my cDotText module, I'll be tweaking it tomorrow hopefully.

UPDATE 2:
I've made a few more changes, one quick change to get things working properly on Solo2.org, something I'll fix in the code as an option for other sites. I'm off to lunch now, but I'll have a better summary of changes in a new post later today. Also I had to add back the desktopdefault.aspx file into the directory so that the www.solo2.org/blogs/ directory would return the mainfeed instead of an error, so I guess the <Clear /> in the HTTPHandlers isn't working properly.

MPx200 Lives again!
Tuesday, February 24, 2004 2:15 PM
After about losing faith last night I was able to resurrect my mpx200. I did another Master Reset, and then waited, and waited, and waited. The phone acted like it was on, displayed info on the outside, but didn't show anything but the MLife splash screen on the inside. I had a friend dial the number, and that somehow woke the phone up out of it's slumber. So far it's running fine. I've rebooted only once though, at least until I get home, as I don't want to loose it again before I get off the airplane tonight so I can call my ride!

MPx200 died!
Monday, February 23, 2004 10:57 PM

I think my MPx200 has died!!! I need to make some calls, so of course it's gone now. I'm sitting here waiting to see if it will finish doing a master reset, which wipes the flash and supposedly starts it over. It's been running now for a few minutes. I couldn't get the phone to hardly boot, it would boot into a funky mode, couldn't use the power button to shut it down.

So I ended up taking the battery out, holding down the big blue button, and then put the battery back in.

I was then prompted with a “Master Reset” warning, to which I said yes. It's rebooted a few times, now I'm not sure if it's hung up, or trying to finish, it's sitting on the shutdown screen :(

It never rains in southern california
Sunday, February 22, 2004 2:36 AM

I know this isn't true, I lived in Riverside for 4 years, but I mean come on. I come out to California for work for a few days, and what happens? It rains! We had a suprise birthday party for my Aunt today, it rained, then my brother and I went out to Beverly Hills so I could look for a gift for someone, we walked up and down Rodeo drive in the rain.

I'm ready to go home though, I've only been here for four maybe five days now, I never thought I would miss St. Louis as much as I do this week. Probably just because work's been a bear this week, and I'd rather sleep in my bed than a hotel bed any day.

How things change... vacation, to work really fast
Friday, February 20, 2004 1:45 PM

I was hoping for a nice relaxing week this week. Then on Monday in class I got a call and was asked if I would go to California for some hotel conversions. I left Tuesday evening, got in to LAX late, swung by the parents house in Long Beach, then down to Irvine to the hotel I'm staying at. I spent the next 48 hours working, with a few hours of sleep here and there. I worked so much, drove so much, and was so busy that I ate two meals that whole time.

I'm in no way a little guy, so I like to eat, but as busy as I've been I just didn't have time, and actually I didn't miss it. I ended up getting 4 hotel conversions done. I was staying in Irvine, but 3 of the hotels were in Beverly Hills/LA, so driving up the 405 has been a lot of fun... NOT REALLY though. I wish I had brought my cameras with me, I left them in the hotel room, I saw an accident on the 405 yesterday morning in which a Saturn had wedged underneith a ford Ranger , raising the back of the ranger probably a good 8-10 feet in the air. It really didn't look to bad, the parts of the saturn I could see didn't even look damaged.

Wednesday night I was at the Regent Beverly Wilshire, wow... nice place! I got a tour around the place, even got to go into the Pretty Woman suite, if I had only brought my camera!

I'm back in Long Beach now, I have the weekend off so I'll be spending it with the family, then back to work on Sunday to convery a few more hotels in the Newport Beach area. Blog ya later!

A week of vacation....
Monday, February 16, 2004 8:30 AM

I'm off at Quilogy today for their Introduction to C# training. No shirt and tie, starts at 8:30, ends around 4, not a bad day :)

One thing I noticed, they've got different books for some of us, I've got the standard MS white/blue binder, there are a few that have an orange book published by MS.

St. Louis Monster Jam
Sunday, February 15, 2004 2:35 PM

Me and my buddy Russ went to the St. Louis Monster Jam last night.I took 415 photos.....  Here's a list of some of the good ones, I'd go through and link them all, but I'm trying to get a test site up and running of DotNetNuke 2.0 this afternoon.

DNN TTTGallery Modifications
Saturday, February 14, 2004 2:00 PM

I made some minor modifications to the TTTGallery today for my sites. Here they both are.

modified the TTTGallery's default file and folder titles. By default they appear as “Untitled”, this is rather annoying if you don't want to have to go through and modify the titles for a few hundred images.

If you do a search for

Return “Untitled“

replace with

Return _name

There should be two instances of that, I believe both in the Gallery Objects.vb file.

This modification replaces the “Untitled” with the filename of the image or folder.

Second Modification

made to better suit my needs on solo2.org.

On the TTT_Viewer.ascx.vb file I added the following line to the page load function, line ~98

      CType(Me.Page.FindControl("Title"), HtmlGenericControl).InnerText += " > " + _request.CurrentItem.Title

That adds the title of the current Image to the Page title of the browser, for hopefully better SEO optimization.

Removed my prior post...
Saturday, February 14, 2004 11:28 AM

I removed my prior post per Scott's recommendations.

In summary I found some wierd referrals in my stats of the blog for one particular post, these referrals were all coming from porn sites. Basically they're just spam, probably trying to get folks to do what I did, post the links and wonder what they are all about.

It's an interesting internet....

A week off.... C# Training
Friday, February 13, 2004 7:30 AM

Well, after today, I get a week off of work! Sorta. I am headed out to Quilogy in St. Charles for C# training.

I always love heading out there, it means I don't have to wear a tie for a week, free french vanilla coffee (you know the kind like at a gas station), and free lunch each day (a free lunch is always nice).

I haven't been out there in over a year now, not for training at least, the last time I was out there I was helping some of their developers on a project for work. We've got a big rollout going on here at work, getting away from everyone who wants to kill each other will also be grand. The stress levels are pretty high, I decided long ago to quit letting this place stress me out, besides, tonight I've got a beautiful date, and tomorrow is Saturday!
