What's your Vista Windows Experience Index score?

Just over a week and a half ago I installed Windows Vista Ultimate RC1 on the newest of my desktop machines. Overall it's been a pleasurable experience, unlike some of the other DotNetNuke core team members have had!

So far Vista has worked out well with me for VS 2005, I even got a release out for DnnCart.com last week that was completely written on this VISTA box.

I did realize a few things though. I NEEDED to get more RAM. Trying to run Photoshop and VIsual Studio 2k5, as well as a few RDP windows was very taxing on the box. The machine is a Dell, Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz dual core, RADEON X300/X550 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM), 149gig SATA drive. It had 768mb of RAM on it (a mix of 3200 and 4200. With those stats my Windows Experience Index has a base score of 2.0. The limiting number being the Graphics card.

Here's a shot of my score

This evening I installed 2 gigs of DDR2 4200 RAM, and so far it is flying! Hopefully tomorrow I'll be installing a nVidia GeForce 7900GS 256MB PCI-E x16 Video Card that I got off of www.Woot.com a few weeks back, this weekend I also ordered a Seagate 250GB SATA Hard Drive refurb off of woot. I've gotta pick up a DVI to VGA converter tomorrow so I can use the car, my 19" VGA just won't fit into the DVI plug! I ordered two off Tiger Direct last week, but of course I ordered the wrong ones. I figure once I install this new card my score should go up quite a bit! We'll see how it goes.

After I get the score up I'll have to look into getting another monitor up here as well, I'm itching to try my hand in a dual screen setup, though two 19" CRTs will sure take up a lot of deskspace!

I also get 5.2 in score for a stock E6600 at 2.4 ghz.

I have seen several in this thread that has an E6400 at stock 2.13ghz getting 5.3 how is this possible.

What kind of crap is this E6600, logically it should be faster when comparing stock speeds.

All I can think of is the OS I have the 64-bit Vista?

It is the budget Core 2 Duo though. Once I've replaced the stock fan I'll try some more serious overclocking and see if I can improve the score. Should be able to get the FSB up to 333 at least - maybe even 400 (RAM and temp permitting), giving me 2.8GHz. Advice - get the E6420 - it has higher multipliers making OC easier.

your vga score was wrong so much

did you go to nVidia site to update new driver.

i thought they had a new driver for you.

i use radeon 9550 that's lower you but i got Aero scores over you(5.9) and 3.6 for gaming.

so you should go to nVidia.com before to get new driver.

More ram needed and i have a 750GB Drive comming so i can run RAID 5.

Just for referance my motherboard is an "ASUS Striker Extream". Great Mobo has raid 0,1 0+1, 5 and JBOD.

Any advice of the memory people got 5.9 on? might need to upgrade to a better make.

Thanks Shrew

Gaming graphics  1535 MB total vidéo memory available -> 5,4

HDD -> 5,5

Final Score 4,8

Score was only 2,4 with the orginial video card from Acer : ATI X1300 LE with 64MB of video RAM and 512MB of Turbo cache Memory

So upgrading the video card was really useful.

Silly that vista wont give you a higher score than 5.9 as a score of 6.0 isnt yet available as vista has not defined it yet. So if you have a score of 5.9 for anything its likely it could be higher.
