Anyone still running this place? weblogs.asp.net

I’m getting a horrible amount of comment spam here on weblogs.asp.net lately. Anyone still maintaining this place? Anything you can do to beef up the spam filtering? I’m half tempted to turn off all comments on my blog posts and to quit using the site if things keep up as is! I would rather not do that, but it’s getting a tad ridiculous.

I don't see any spam at all lately (*knocks on wood*)

It might be good to enable comment moderation and set it to always, so you always have to moderate the comments. This will filter out the unwanted crap. also disable trackbacks, which is the main source of blogspam. trackbacks are hardly useful nowadays anyway, as they're massive used for blogspam.

It's pretty bad. As Frans Bouma suggests, I moderate all comments and turned off ping backs. The spammers seem to have auto registered many accounts.

It would also be nice if the people in charge (if they're around) would remove the  regular commercial posts by Visual WebGui. This is meant to be a community site.

I ended up turning off the trackbacks, forgot you could do that. I have it setup so the only comments auto approved now are from other weblogs.asp.net accounts. It still boggles my mind that the spam filtering isn't updated on any sort of a frequent basis to block all the automated posts though.

I agree, it's a problem.

Say, would you like to buy a 'Rolecks' watch?

You could move your blog to Blogspot. Mine doesn't get spammed except once by Cash4Gold.

Stephen, apparently turning off trackbacks only effects new posts, gotta figure out how to turn it off for existing posts
