Procedure entry point _Atomic_fetch_sub_4 could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR110.dll

Recently my Visual Studio 2012 RC installation quit working on my laptop, the whole install is less than two weeks old, but being that VS is currently a release candidate I figured that it probably is just buggy. The problem is I can’t get visual studio to load anymore, which leaves me without the ability to do any further enhancements to my SlidePresentation module.

I remembered that yesterday I installed Windows Live Writer (along with a few other Live essential apps) and after doing some searching I came across this July 2012 Update for Visual Studio 2012 RC http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30178

Running this update for Visual Studio appears to fix the problem with loading Visual Studio 2012 RC after installing Windows Live Essentials, and if you are reading this blog post, you will also find that Windows Live Writer still works as this post was created with it.

A Microsoft error message that has next to zero to do with the real error.  Gee.  Has that ever happended before?

And when was the last time that two pieces of Microsoft technology didn't "play nice together"?

Haven't we been seeing this since the late 1980's, ever since Windows 1.0?  Some things never change.

I'm really loving the theme/design of your website. Do you ever run into any browser compatibility issues? A couple of my blog visitors have complained about my website not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Firefox. Do you have any tips to help fix this issue?

I am using VS 2011 beta, so this fix doesn't help. Though, uninstalling Live Writer 2012 doesn't help either.

Though I love C# and ASP.NET MVC, I hate windows operating systems; every time they bring something new, old breaks. I miss Raymond Chen.

Chris,

I applied the patch and tested VS2012 to see if it would open. Sure enough it fired right up. After seeing the error "Procedure entry point _Atomic_fetch_sub_4 could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCR110.dll" my initial thought was that I had to run a VS 2012 re-install. I didn't want to sit and wait for the install so I searched the web and found your post. After applying the patch and it worked I was going to just roll out like i usually do. Since your post was simple, quick and worked I thought I owed your the courtesy to come back and say thank you for taking the time to share the resolution to the world.

Thanks,

Brian

Check MSVCR110.dll is present in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0\Common7\IDE folder

If not present put it in
