[From France] One other thing that money can't buy

We have begun our French ASP.NET Roadshow. So far, we have already been in Rouen, Paris, Lyon, Lille and Nantes. This explains why I've been away from my blog lately. I was last week in Lyon and Nantes, where we met lots in interresting people, mostly developers. Approximately the third of the attendees came with they laptops and installed a trila version of Visual Studio .NET to do the "Hands On Labs" and the end of the day. We called this a "Bring Your Own Laptop", but two persons came with a desktop PC and large CRT screen ;-)

Thursday evening, after the session that ended at 8 PM, we went a bunch of attendees to a restaurant, which was a good occasion to have more informal discussions and exchange ideas and point of views. At the end of the dinner, when we stood up to go to pay the bill, the owner of the restaurant asked us for assistance, since she had a brand new PC that refused to print the invoices in portrait orientation. It's an experience: it's the first time I'm to debug a PC in a restaurant. So, yes like it or not, we're definitely in the "Digital Decade" :)

Then after, we said good bye to our new friends and hit the road to our hotel. We had a reservation for a room in an hotel in Nantes. But last week there was a Vet congress in town, and all hotel rooms were booked. Since we came out late from the restaurant and didn't think to call the hotel to reconfirm the reservation, they gave it to another customer. You propably don't know how it feels when you're looking for a left room in an hotel, at 1 AM, after you've been told by the 10th hotel that it is sold out. Another thing money can't buy... Next thursday we will be in Orléans. I hope I won't have a bad surprise with my hotel this time :)

Delphi for .NET was announced at BorCon
I haven't heard about it on weblogs.asp.net, but it seems that Borland has officially launched Delphi 8 for .NET at BorCon. Did someone attend, and if Yes, could some feedbacks and comments be published? As usual, I'm curious of all things related to .NET...
Mono Roadmap
Miguel de Icaza talks about the Mono Roadmap. Mono v 1.0 is expected for Q1 2004. Talking about Indigo, Lluis explains on his blog why Enterprise Services isn't a priority and won't be implemented. Code Access Security will also be missing in Mono for a long time. All this stuff alligned with what Miguel presented during his un-official "Mono BoF" at PDC03 last week.
