Cassini Web Server V.Next ?

Just approve a promising message when I was moderating the ASP.NET Forum, the message subject is:

Download New CassinEx Web Server

Wow! New CassinEx Web Server? Enhanced Version? Bug Fixed? Next Version? Is it the same as Cassini Project with a different name/interface?

If you ever used ASP.NET Web Matrix, or even tried the ASP.NET v2.0, you may noticed that you can run your web page without IIS, and that's just the power and ability of Cassini.

Looks like someone took the Cassini source and created an enhanced version. Almost like an open source project! :-)

Yeah, I think so. =)
Cassini is really very useful in ASP.NET anyway!

A new .NET TomCat?

I was thinking about a .net web server that not uses extensions but path of the urls to maph applications, i.e. not a .aspx mapped to aspnet_isapi.dll, but /application/* mapped to a HttpHandler.. Is it a bad idea?

Hey... this is sweet! I just posted the code last night and already people are blogging about it.

You are exactly correct. I basically took the Cassini source code from Microsoft and changed it to fit my needs.

I develop web applications for many different clients. Each web app is basically a standalone web site and needs to be a ROOT web.

The problem is that Windows XP only allows you to have one web site running at a time. You can create multiple web sites by scripting, but can't have them all running simultaneously. I wrote a little tray app called SwitchIIS that allows me to toggle between different web sites, but after about a dozen or so, it got to be tiring.

Anyway, I figured I'd see if I could hack Cassini to run multiple web apps. After some preliminary tests, it turned out I could.

I talked to a few people and everyone wanted more features, so I decided I would try to make it a mini-IIS. And thus CassiniEx was born.

I had registered SystemEx.NET a while ago because I wanted to do some open source projects using .NET. This is my first public project.

Feel free to let me know what you think of CassiniEx.
