Resistant to change

My company have a web application which allowing user to print a data report via an ActiveX component in the past, and due to the change of requirement from uesr, I created a new .NET control hosted in this web page with the use of crystal report today, allowing them to print the report to the printer directly.

Technical speaking, the users should never notice the change and the new report is faster and the result is exactly what they want. However, they told me that they miss the old one... as they can select printer and number of copies (that's the basic printer dialog of the browser in fact) with the old ActiveX component.  Therefore, I add a <DIV> with several buttons pretending the old printer dialog... Is it a normal behavior.. or.. an example of "Resistant to change"? :S

Hong Kong .NET User Group Booth @ Microsoft Hong Kong TechEd 2004

After a series of discussion and meeting, I'm glad to see that my local TechEd owner offer a booth to my local Hong Kong .NET User Group in the upcoming local TechEd event! The host of this booth is my local user group, as I have to cope with their target audience and their local strategy.. I'll try to promote and build up the brand of INETA over there anyway. ;)

I'm delighted to contact a vendor today, and meeting with the marketing department's manager's boss's boss is lots of fun. He's willing to cover all of the expenses of running this booth, including the loan of notebooks and LCD, production of jacket, banner and leaflet etc!

However, most of my proposals were banned by local MS offices, including sessions like Ask The .NET Expert, BOF, dinner of geeks (speakers, sponsors, helpers and local influentials) as my local DE will fly to Redmond during the TechEd so no MS representatives in charge of these sessions... :(

Anyway, I know I still have lots of work to do and I have to meet with various volunteers and sponsors, but I'm sure it's challeging and interesting for me in next 2 weeks. :)

My new MVP Lead Blog

I received an email from my regional MVP lead announcing that she's just start a blog and introduce blogging to her fellow MVPs. Well, I just knew that my MVP lead was changed 2 weeks ago and she'll take care of the Hong Kong and Taiwan MVPs, I don't know what's happen in my local MS office and my (old) local MVP lead but... anyway, it's great to see my new regional MVP lead join the blogsphere.

She join the blogsphere at the best moment, especially Scott just upgraded the Community Server :: Blog software recently, including the comment spam prevention, and especially DBCS supported, that's why she can enter Chinese in her blog now.

BTW, I run a local blogging site with the help of Scott last year, and all of the local MVPs host a blog there. Therefore, I contacted her at once when she became my new MVP lead, and I introduce the idea of providing a single place for both Hong Kong and Taiwan MVPs, like toggling the GroupID on weblogs.asp.net. She bought my idea and I'd start coding on DotText (Well, v0.95.102 of DotText do have some minor known bug, including the Admin logout issue and the VARCHAR and NVARCHAR problem). Anywy, I modified DotText and setup in one of my hoster within a week, and the project is actually ready to go. However, the new MVP lead IMed me this evening and told me that... her community team had setup another blogging site and welcome all of the Hong Kong and Taiwan MVP to join and start blogging. It's totally a duplication of job and wasteful of time... sigh...

Anyway, I'm glad to see more and more people, especially the MSies around my region start blogging.

MSDN Connection - Hong Kong (Professional and Student Categories)

MSDN Connection There're something new for the MSDN Connection program - Hong Kong region today -  a new category for students with special gift was introduced and available for all students now.

For professional and students, register here and here respectively.
(Yes, there're two separate web pages with the names of Disclaimer.aspx and Disclaimer2.aspx, and I guess Microsoft will copy the disclaimer page and save as Disclaimer3, 4, 5.. (can't make use of QueryString?) if more categories to be added in the future. :-)
