  • Closing in on home

I took this picture on Friday afternoon. It's a scene from my daily run. At this point I'm closing in on home, which is about a half-mile ahead in the valley. Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains are in the distance. This is also a favorite location on the run because "it's all downhill from here." And sometimes going downhill is a good thing. • On the road for a week

I'm writing to you from a hotel on the southside of Binghamton, New York, a stop-over on our way south from Vermont for a brief visit with family in Pennsylvania Dutch Country followed by four days in Washington, DC. Back in Vermont, Lord willing, next Saturday. I don't know what's on the agenda for DC, since my wife does all of the vacation planning for us. I love her for doing that, of course. She tells me what day we leave and what day we come back. Everything else is on a need-to-know basis only. But that's all the information I need to figure out how many pair of socks and underwear to pack. I do know that the office of Bernie Sanders (our Vermont Senator who's an Independent and self-described Democratic Socialist), has scheduled us for...

  • Half Marathon Man

I ran my first half marathon yesterday, the First Annual RunVermont Half Marathon Unplugged. Woo-hoo! Now for the vital stats. A half marathon is 13.1 miles. My time was 2:03:49. • Reply from my Congressman on webcasting royalties

Just received this from Peter Welch, my Vermont Representative in Congress, in response to the letter I sent him about proposed Web Radio royalty increases. I'm glad I voted for this guy. -------------------- April 6, 2007 Dear Mr. Burke, Thank you for contacting me about the recent royalty rate determination by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB). I appreciate your feedback on this issue. I understand your concern about the effect of this decision on internet radio broadcasters. The CRB issued its "Determination of Rates and Terms for Webcasting" on March 2, 2007. This rule establishes a retroactive rate of $0.0008 per performance of each song per listener. This rate will increase annually to $0.0019 in 2010. Interested parties have the opportunity...
