  • Here is wishing Bill Gates a happy retirement!

Advertisement : SharePoint 2007 Training by Sahil in Europe and United States ( more information ). Trivia - If you would have invested $10K in Microsoft when it went public in 84, when Steve Ballmer became CEO - that was worth $7.84 million. If you would have invested $10K when Steve Ballmer became CEO, that would now be worth $4700. Not sayin' Ballmer is a bad CEO, but I just feel that the company seriously needs to reinvent itself. It is not possible to tell whether Bill Gates departure will be good, or bad for the company - but change is always good, and Bill is leaving for bigger better goals. Here is wishing Bill Gates a happy retirement, the man who changed the face of this planet, and is a big hero in my eyes. Read full article Read...

  • iTunes wish

Advertisement : SharePoint 2007 Training by Sahil in Europe and United States ( more information ). Usually, whenever I have wished for stuff on my blog, it comes true. (As long as I don't go nuts asking for a free ferrari or crap like that). So, here is my wish - It would be hella nice if iTunes could become my TIVO for Internet radio stations. Basically, I choose what radio stations I like, maybe even a pay model, and my computer records stuff for me, and at night when I drop my phone into the charger, the recorded radio station synchs back for my listening pleasure next day. Now that would be hella nice. Currently listening to: radioAmbient <-- 128K broadband only! Read full article .... Read More...

  • Foldershare = Diskspace hog!

Okay first of all, I love foldershare! I cannot imagine life without it. But, on one of my laptops, with a 160G HDD, I had about 50GB of VMs, 10G of Windows 10G of program files 5G of documents/work etc. You add all those up together, and ou have about 70-80GB of space filled. But, my HDD was showing almost completely full!! First, I thought it was Windows Vista previous versions. So I cleaned out all previous versions, and I gained 800KB (don't laugh). I just could not figure out, where all thid disk space was? So, I wrote a little program to iterate through all dirs on my system, and show me disk usage of the biggest pigs. FOLDERSHARE WAS IT! DANGIT! At an obscure location of C:\Users\Sahil Malik\AppData\Local\FolderShare\trash, that "trash"...

  • I is renewed MVP. w00t!!

Many thanks to Microsoft, and everyone who has attended my talks, read my articles, and my blog, and put up with my corny sense of humor. I'd also like to thank my clients who saw value in my being an MVP, and supported my community efforts by offering me flexibility to do so. I am pleased to report that I have been renewed as Microsoft MVP in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server competency, with secondary competencies of C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server. This is my 5th consecutive MVP award, and nothing in my career has been as rewarding (in more ways than just financial), than being an MVP. Being a MOSS MVP, is an incredible experience as well. The product team is just incredible, and the product itself is fantastic. I am quite convinced that...

  • I've switched my default browser

Uhmm .. okay .. I already love my iPhone. Now, I'm going to put in one more Apple praising post in, and I still reserve one more before I officially turn into a Mac fanboy. But, I simply love the new Safari 3.1 browser they put out. Why? It is FAST. I mean, heckuva fast. Seriously, try it out yourself .. it is a good 3-4 times faster than IE or F.Fox. Try it on a heavy duty website .. something that uses a lot of javascript and ajax .. say maps.google.com. It's search (CTRL_F) capability - the screenshot speaks for itself. It's amazing web inspector - It's queued downloads feature. Click and configure user agent (great for debugging) Private browsing CTRL_SHIFT_A -----> Autofill form (Yeah seriously!) In built spell checker...

  • I told you so!!

Okay, here is to a bit of chest thumping (Sorry, but I just had to). But, I told you so, on two points - 1. SharePoint : I said on Dotnetrocks, and otherwise - SharePoint is a game changer. Many still choose to live in the denial phase. But did you hear? " Office Live Workspace is built on WSS 3.0 ". Don't believe me? Go read this - Update to Office Live Workspace 2. Microsoft's data access story : About 2 years ago, when I first played with DLINQ (now rechristened to LINQ to SQL), I basically flat out said - This is for RAD development/prototyping - not good enough for production environments. To be very specific, I had said ... ".... where your logical model could be sufficiently disjoint from the conceptual model ....

  • MVP Summit 2008 - My hotel info

Okay, I started chalking this out as an email first, but I have way too many friends, so this is going on the blog instead. I will be @ the MVP summit 2008. I intend on having a boat load of fun. Much more than last time around. Though I still don't believe that I sat on a mechanical bull for $10 the last time around, when I was completely drunk and apparently taken advantage of. I will be at the hotel that starts with a "W", and has flat panel LCD screens in the rooms. No it ain't the "W". (W sucked IMNSHO). Haven't booked my air tix yet, awaiting confirmation on hotel.
