A very good question …

Last night, I was sitting with a few PMs for various pieces of the Framework and I asked the question: Why do I have to wait for framework improvements, like the new XsltProcessor, XPathDocument or the improvements in System.Net until the IDE support for ASP.NET or even Yukon are done? Why isn’t there a more modular release strategy, like the one employed by WSE, that allows to release pieces of the framework on their own?

They all looked at me and said: THAT’S A VERY GOOD QUESTION! You should blog that … so here I go.

Does anybody know the answer? Does anybody feel like I do on this?

I agree. There will be lots of stuff that will be useful long before Whidbey and Yukon are ready.

Indeed!

But I think the answer is, as always: money. .NET itself doesn't generate revenue, vs.net does.
