It's a humour deprived response, but the lander was named in honour of the Beagle -- the ship Charles Darwin was on when he hit the Galapogos. Still -- the name has led to a lot of bad jokes, and they should have thought of that, and perhaps named it something else. Perhaps Newton, or Boyle?
