I was trying to play System Shock 2 recently, and it kept locking up on me (in fact, it's been locking up for a few years now, but I keep trying new things) and I found that it doesn't like Hyperthreading or Dual Core processors. Apparently, the only way to get it to run stable is to set it to run on 1 Processor.

You can do that manually after the program starts with Task Manager, but that's a pain. However, under Vista, you can set processor affinity from the command-line with the "start" command.

"start /affinity 01 shock2.exe", and it runs great.

Add this to your toolbox if you find older programs that still won't run (or run and lock up)

Probably one of the most useful tips I've come across for Vista. I ran it yesterday, and it seems to have take care of several niggling little problems on my system.

Two months ago, I started working with the beta. First impressions, were very favorable, but over the last two months, it started getting flakey, with some annoyingly persistent error messages, Remote Control not working consistently, or at all, files dissapearing, media sharing not working...

Well, the CTP takes care of all of those problems, and even adds a few nice features... Media sharing to the 360 just works, you can choose to disregard notifications, they've added the capability for third party add-ins... This product looks ready to rock.

At it's core, WHS is primarily for backup and storage and sharing, and if that's all it did it looks like a worthwhile product, but with the capability to add add-ins to run on the server, it looks like a wonderful way to offload a lot of tasks like downloads and filesharing and other small tasks.

Can't wait to see what people create and how much more they add to this.
