From my recent investigations and some talk with folks from the Indigo/WCF team it seems that WCF currently only supports full trust CAS scenarios.
This means that you
- a) cannot use WCF in standard Smart Client/No-Touch Deployment/ClickOnce applications and
- b) cannot use WCF services (like .svc implementations) in a partially trusted ASP.NET web site as found in every serious hosting space.
Not sure whether this all will change for v1 RTM.
Seems like Edward and myself are ready to talk a bit more in-depth about what we are working on. We are currently playing around with some thoughts of a service and data contract DSL and try to implement it with with Microsoft's early versions of the DSL Toolkit. A bit of a pain, but the whole story is just evolving...
If you are interested on the Why and also the How of DSLs – not just from a Microsoft-branded perspective - go and read Martin Fowler’s most inspiring article on Language Workbenches.
Also go to an older blog post from me musing about the whole Code vs. Contract first vs. Explicitness vs. Anything-else-in-the-world story and how it relates to DSLs.
This is very exciting stuff (ooops, I was meant to avoid this term :)).
Yeah, Avalon is no longer Avalon, but rather WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation).
But I always asked myself what does Avalon mean. Well, it turns out that "Avalon" derives from the old Irish word "Avaloch" – which means "a place of apples".
Just to let you know ;)
This year I will be speaking at the famous JAOO conference in Aarhus, Denmark. A number of friends of mine like Beat and Ted will also be there.
I think this traditionally not-too-.NET-centric event will have a big impact on how at least I see .NET in comparison to the ‚rest of the world’. Really looking forward.
It is always good to think outside the box…

Please: everybody using WSCF 0.5 – go and download this new version 0.51. We have had some severe problems during QA for 0.5. So a lot of important bug fixes made it into 0.51.

Thanks for using WSCF and for giving important feedback to further improve it.
Any questions, rants, bugs and the like should from now on be reported in our thinktecture Forums.
