I've had the itch for a month or so to buy a Tablet PC, so today I decided to go and have a look at one. I called CompUSA to see if they had any, but they said they didn't. Called Best Buy, who also said they didn't have any, and that none of their stores did, but this person (at Best Buy) said that CompUSA *did* have them. Well, my "incompetence meter" was higher on the CompUSA call, so I went with my instincts and decided to pay a visit to CompUSA anyway. It's Sunday, not like I have anything better to do.
Well sure enough, CompUSA does have the blasted things, though only the Toshiba and the Acer, and they're not kept in sight anywhere, nor any display about them--you have to physically ask someone, and they have to go and get them out of something called "Laptop Lockdown". Apparently I'm the only one who thinks that name is funny. Seeing as how none of the salespeople laughed at my jokes about it, I'll spare you the reading of them here.
My next obstacle was getting them to take my seriously at all. Both salesmen asked me where I was "in school", and seemed to think I was graduating from high school (!) and wanted to take the thing to college with me. (For the record, I graduated college in 1996). Once we got over that little confusion, they finally let me play with one (I asked for the Toshiba). I really liked it! I'm looking at this as a replacement for my laptop, so the high-powered Toshiba is really the way to go for my particular situation.
I called Eli from the store so he would talk me out of buying it on the spot (I'm an impulse buyer), but there's a good chance I'll be heading back there to buy it this week.
