Designations -- MVP!

A couple of people have posted recently about signing your name with various designations, usually certifications of some kind. I'm an MCSD (for VB6), and I personally don't sign my name "Marcie Robillard, MCSD" because it reminds me of more "impressive" professional designations, such as what doctors use: "Doogie Howser, M.D." To me, an MCSE or MCSD just doesn't carry that sort of weight, nor should it. Now I do mention my MCSD occasionally when clients ask me for a summary of my experience and credentials, and I would probably include it in a bio, as Duncan mentioned, if I were to write an article.

Now the one designation I *do* use sometimes is my MVP status.  That one I'm much more proud of, as it is a recognition of my community efforts, most particularly, providing what I hope are high-quality answers to my fellow ASP.NET developers.  Unfortunately, a lot of people still don't know what the MVP program is (you can read about it here).  Nevertheless, the ones that are familiar with the program are generally fairly impressed with its members, and recognize the value of the designation (compared to the certs, where the value is debatable at best).
