  • Dinner in Illinois?

It turns out I get to have lunch tomorrow with fellow weblogger Erik Porter (Human Compiler).  Anybody in the vicinity of Illinois free for dinner?

  • Keeping "fed"

Luke Hutteman (creator of SharpReader) writes:  "

One of the problems with using an RSS Aggregator is that it gives the illusion of allowing you to keep up with a practically infinite number of weblogs. Whenever you find a link to a new weblog with an interesting entry, the temptation is high to subscribe to this blog to keep up with other writings on it. After doing this for a while, you end up with a huge number of subscriptions and find that there is a limit to what you can keep up with after all, even when using an aggregator.

    "

I struggle with this too.  My current solution is to add new blogs I find to a "New Finds" category within SharpReader, then as I read them, move them over to one of my other categories, things like "Absolute Favorites--read every day", "Very Cool People", "Misc. People", "Don't seem to keep up with".  And when my Unreads start getting too high, I delete one or two feeds from my "Don't seem to keep up with" category.

  • Java and Garbage Collection

"If Java had true garbage collection, most programs would delete themselves upon execution. "

Found here, by way of Scoble.

  • Datagrid love

Stephen Forte writes:  "North African developers love the ASP .NET DataGrid. "

    Yay!

  • IIS Applications vs. Virtual Directories

Paul Wilson writes:  "I've even noticed that nearly everyone, including Scott Guthrie and Fritz Onion, incorrectly refers to Virtual Directories when what they really mean is IIS Applications.  These terms are not interchangeable -- you can have a Virtual Directory without it being an IIS Application, and you can also have an IIS Application without it being a Virtual Directory.  Being a Virtual Directory is not relevant to ASP.NET -- its just a logical way to organize your web-site and physical directories.  "

Good point Paul, I think I've mixed them up myself when talking about this stuff.

  • Love makes the world go round...

Cool, apparently Wally and I aren't the only ones with blog-love for Paul Wilson, fellow weblogger Kirk Allen Evans' company might give Paul a job!  Good for them...
  • Tech Ed Bloggers International Update

    Drew comments:

"When TechEd Dallas ended, I didn't really think doing the other
locations would work, but I'm starting to get more ideas on how to handle the
other locations as well as requests from people to cover their
    location. So here we go!

What we will probably do is combine the remaining TechEds into one list
(archiving the Dallas and Europe into their own). We'll provide some
indication of which TechEd(s) the blogger is attending. Should be fun!

If you have any ideas let me know. This is all being driven by requests
and comments from the IT/Developer community, which is great!
    "

That all sounds great, Drew!  I just know that I want to hear what people have to say about Tech Ed Australia and Tech Ed New Zealand, and I'm hoping that maybe some of those people sign up for blogs just so they can blog about the events.  Events like this (IMO) just become so much more interesting when there's a real "community" surrounding them where you can find out what other people think about what's going on, what they've seen that you missed, opportunities to get together and get to know new people, etc.  That's what I love the most about this field.

Thanks for all your work on Tech Ed Bloggers (TEB?), Drew.

  • Tech Ed Bloggers -- international

I'm delighted to see that the Tech Ed Bloggers site is now focusing on the Barcelona event!  I'm hoping they also cover the upcoming Australia and New Zealand Tech Eds (hint, hint, Drew), especially of interest to me since I'll be speaking at those (on Advanced Datagrids) in August, and don't really know anyone in that hemisphere.  Looking forward to keeping up on all the latest.
