  • Out the door for TechFusion...

At 6:00AM tomorrow morning I will be leaving for Greensboro for the TechFusion .NET Developers conference.  I’m really looking forward to this, since it will be my first conference.

The 2 day agenda looks pretty interesting, and there will also (if I remember correctly) be a mini-launch party for VS.NET 2003/Server 2003 too.

As always I will be on the lookout for T-Shirts, posters (thanks Keith), and any other types of free propaganda to plaster the walls of my office with.  (The guys next door are Open-Source developers, and they seem to have an endless supply of penguin stickers to deface my .NET stuff)…

Anyways, I will most likely be using the Story section of my blog to take notes of interesting things at the conference.  I’m sure I will pick up lots of great tips.

  • .NET Framework Tools List

I started compiling a list of some ot the useful tool that are shipped with the .NET Framework.  You can find this list here, which was taken from a poster in MSDN magizine.  I plan on using it for a reference, and though I wouls share it with everyone.

So far I have only listed the Configuration & Deployment Tools.

  • Default Button for WinForm Apps

I am stumped, and I was hoping the community here could help me with (what should be) a very simple question.

I am trying to catch the Enter key when the cursor is in a particular TextBox, much like the DefaultButton server control for ASP.NET, but I am working with a WinForm App.

    Any ideas?

  • .NET Tools RSS Feed

Chad Osgood's RSS feed for Fabrice Marguerie's list of .NET tools is a neat thing.  I just wanted to verify for Chad that the Categories do in fact render correctly with NewsGator.  All I had to do (in Outlook 2003 Beta 2) was change the "Arranged By..." from Date to Categories, and its perfect.

    Screenie

Alas, I feel that I'm the last person on the planet that hasn't switched to one of the .NET aggregators, but I can't get away from my NewsGator in Outlook.

  • ISO Image Tools

    G. Andrew Duthie and Phil Scott mention tools for manipulating ISO (CD) images.  I thought that I might post the tools I commonly use to manage ISO's.

    • Nero Burning ROM lets you burn just about any CD image format, including ISO's (File -> Burn Image), and is the least bloated, most reliable, and most updated burning program I have found.
    • IsoBuster, WinISO (abandoned?), and UltraISO (my fav) are all similar.  Particulary, WinISO was great for converting obscure cd image files to ISO's (until Nero gained support for those formats that is...).  UltraISO is pretty much a faster implementation of WinISO's functionality.
    • Daemon Tools (free) and Alcohol %120 (demo) let you mount CD images to virtual CD drives without even burning them.  Alcohol even lets you make working backups of copy protected games.  Definately a good thing to have at $40-$60 a pop these days.

    **Update**
Adam Hill reminds us that the .IMG files found on MSDN must be renamed to .ISO to use the tools above.

  • I'm a Mort!

    Referring here as well...

My my my...  What some people will do for a poster.
