OT: The end of an era

It is a very sad day for geekdom...

Slashdot is reporting that Lego is terminating production of it's Mindstorms product line.  I have had the pleasure of working with these products (including a bit of work with .NET) and I must say that these things are COOL.

Now it will be even harder for me to bring myself to relenquish control of the set that I have borrowed from my advisor at school.

The yahoo news site reports losses but no news on the product being cut. I would not put trust in slashdots word on this, although if true it would be very sad its a great product.

'Mindstorms' is a terrific product - wish they (had) reduce the price of it. ($200 is kinda steep).

The yahoo news site reports "It also developed popular CD-ROM games and its lauded Mindstorms series, high-tech robots that are made of building blocks but can be controlled by personal computers.
[snip]
The company now plans to stop making the electronics and movie tie-in products..."

Yahoo's words, not Slashdot's.
