Swiss .NET Users Group

A couple of weeks ago I spoke to .NET Users Group in Zurich and Geneva (Switzerland). Slides, code, and even a media file of the presentation is now available on the DotMugs Web site.

The presentation was about performing hard tricks in ASP.NET 1.x.

  • How to detect when the user pressed the Refresh button to avoid repeating potentially dangerous actions (like deleting a record).
  • How to give a TextBox control the ability to detect the Enter key and postback
  • How to show an interim page while a lengthy operation is taking place on the server.

I seriously risked to be hit by the Alitalia uncontrolled strike. Alitalia is the Italian flagship carrier and is dangerously close to bankruptcy. Days ago, some workers blocked pilots and flight attendants wanting to fly from boarding planes. As a result, hundreds of flights were canceled all over the world. I was lucky enough because the company put me on a flight to Madrid and from there to Rome. So I ended up having a "global" day--breakfast in Geneva, lunch in Madrid, and finally dinner at home.

Dino, presentation and examples are available only to users from Switzeland. You cannot register from US. Easy solution would be to cheat on registration, but....
