The Joys of Technology Explored

Avalon Dissected

I've just released the first part of a series of articles covering Avalon that I've titled Avalon Dissected. They're completely free and they're based on my personal experience with the Avalon framework so far. They are my interpretations of the information I've gleaned from the SDK and what code I've hacked together to test my theories. To the best of my knowledge, my interpretations are accurate, but they are not to be considered fact.

The articles are meant to be a living, breathing entities that I hope to keep up to date over time. If I'm wrong about something or if you feel I've left out important details, I'd like to hear about it. Either add your comments to the an individual article or shoot me an email.

A lot of the explaination of Visuals is slightly off. I'll post corrections and explainations up on my site later this week.

(Basically, only the system can implement IVisual in a sensible way and *everything* is currently retained. DrawingVisual always holds on to it and you don't need to implement a callback while RetainedVisual has the ability to call you back for the content if and can throw it away if necessary)
