Etiquette in a OneNote collaboration session
I teamed up with Mitch and Thomas tonight to share a bit of a OneNote collaboration session. Mitch and I actually had a session to start with and found that it is an awesome way to share ideas in an interactive and spontaneous way.. OneNote has a strength in allowing you to spawn new threads at will. Mitch decided to start a protocol to facilitate a richer experience and we continued that on when we joined Thomas's session. Here's some notes that we made, I'm sure that we'll develop more as we continue to use this awesome tool.
The Distributed OneNote Protocol
MJD: Lets use this page to talk about the OneNote protocol that we established in the previous session we had. I think it would be good to establish some simple working rules.
DJN: Good idea… so, we mentioned that when altering someone else's sentence that an editing highlight should be made. MJD: That’s right and everyone should choose their own highlight colour. DJN: Nod, I'll take blue. TJ: Hmm, what color…:) MJD: Pink suits you :P
TJ: what's that supposed to mean? MJD: It means this particular line is getting to long and we should start another thread of conversation. See: TJ's Choice of COlour
DJN: So, if we move that stuff out into a new branch do you think that you should leave a marker or something?
MJD: And it should be obvious that we are prefixing what we are writing with our initials.
DJN: You clearly have to exercise good manners when "touching" existing stuff - a bit Wiki'ish I guess? MJD: Good manners works well on Wiki's TJ: Yeah, look at the wikipedia… DJN: Wiki's have that edit history thing though. TJ: Yeah, maybe they should consider implementing the Word 'Comment & History Tracker'-thingy? DJN: The speed and interactive feel would probably suffer under the weight of that? TJ: I guess that depends on how optimized the routine is… It would obviously run in a separate thread?
MJD: I also think that its important not to try and carry on to many concurrent threads.
Features you would like in OneNote
MJD: OneNote's simplicity is its power.
TJ's Choice of Colour
MJD: Each thread should have a title I think.
TJ: Agreed.
