Active Sink
I don't know if it's just me but I have the distinct impression that ActiveSync is an application which gets worked on by the work experience people when there is no filing to be done.

My theory is that's its punishment for naughty C++ developers.
"Remember to account for buffer overflows or else its ActiveSink for you!"

Active S(ink|ync) is one of those interesting apps that breaks some rules. I notice I never get prompted when ActiveSync tries to access my Outlook Data... One wonders what other devious programmers have reverse engineered that little trick.

I have to agree with you about active sync, in my previous job I worked for a company that developed PalmOs and Pocket PC applications, the Palm OS "Hotsync Manager" is an IJW type of application whereas we had no end of troubles with ActiveSync.
It seems to me that Microsoft were in the process of abandoning ActiveSync in favour of other methods such as sql ce replication or web services, which is fine for enterprise applications, but where does that leave your plumber who wants to synchronise his MYOB datafile with his Pocket PC to create invoices on the fly and have them automatically download when he gets back to the office?
