&lt;p&gt;For mask comparisons in future. In this case, each enum is only a single bit, but, if you had a collision, and were searching for a component (eg, you were searching for red in a purple sample), your method would return true, even though you don't have a red sample, you have a purple sample.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This method ensures you get what you're searching for only.&lt;/p&gt;
