Microsoft CRM, Exchange and Aftermail conundrum

Being a glutton for punishment I've decided to contemplate doing 3 jobs at the same time:

  • Build an email server for 2 startups
  • Conduct due diligence on the Microsoft CRM suite
  • Implement a demonstration server for the Aftermail exchange archiving solution
  • side orders would be stuff like Decisionality demos and SharePoint 2003

I want to run the whole lot on one server, the startups will have at least 20 mailboxes and will rise very quickly to 125+.  I'm going to expose it to the net at our datacentre once I've finished the build.  So has anyone attempted this before or should I rethink my approach and go for a dedicated DB server, web server and application server config 1x1x1 to scale later?

The thing is, as they're startups, cost is an issue and low TCO must be balanced with an affordable entry point.  Any advice would be really appreciated!

Could it ever happen?

I've not really been too public on this blog but I really ought to let all my DotNet friends know about something I'm up to and it coincides nicely with a recent request for me to put down in black and white a vision statement.

So, if you want to know how I am using .NET to change the world - please follow this link.  Then do comeback and either show your support or give me feedback.

Thanks,

ED

Not yet got dotnet? ;-)

I spent some time with Graham Parker the other day and boy was his sense of humour in full swing - but in a blink of an eye it became reality eh voila: NotYetGotDotNet - Graham has been running VBUG in UK for many years now and been a staunch supporter of the VB developer community.

He's also kicked off a few other sites specifically for the GotDotNet community so do take a look at his blog when you get a chance...

Well done Barry!

Microsoft Canada has just announced their choice of ObjectSharp's Barry Gervin as an MSDN Regional Director for 2004

It's really rare for me to read a fifth of the emails I receive and I have them sorted and filed in a variety of ways for when I want to go over a particular subject area - Outlook 2003 really cheered me up with search folders, before that it was a case of hacking the emails into a database to do proper searching anyhow... I just noticed amongst my emails a newsletter mentioning that one of my early C# mentors is getting some recognition, way to go Barry!
