Northwest Airlines has a frequent
flier program that lets you pick from an impressive variety of titles, including old favorites
such as "baron", "dutchess", and so on. I ended up going with
"Lord" in the hopes that my implied estate might entitle me to free upgrades if I ever end up
flying with them. Unfortunately my first choice, "Man-At-Arms", was
unavailable.
I'm still in pain and it still sucks. More to
come.
I played what may end up being my
last game of roller hockey on Wednesday night. Near the end of the first half I
caught a high stick in the face that cut my lip (no penalty, of course), but I
was able to get it patched up by the beginning of the second half. I decided to
tough it out and play the rest of the game. Unfortunately, on my first shift
back I twisted my ankle (or at least I think it’s twisted) and had to be helped
off of the rink.
I couldn’t walk on Thursday, so I
figured I’d spend the day at home relaxing to some healthy pseudo-violent
television. Although I don’t have an Internet connection (I rarely spend time at
my home) I am usually able to *borrow* bandwidth from a neighbor with a loose
WLAN. I guess they must have unplugged the access point from the Internet when
they went to work (I assume they work although I actually have no idea who it
is) because I could connect to their network, but couldn’t get to the Internet
(that selfish bastard).
Oh well,
here I am, two days later. I’ve hobbled into work, almost exclusively for the
Internet connection. Oh yeah, and the soda. Let’s hope the weekend brings
brighter days.
Most people think that the building I work in, building
42, was named such due to its convenient location between buildings 41 & 43.
This is actually incorrect. In fact, the building was named in honor
of Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy", in which the number 42
plays an important role as the answer to the great question of life, the
universe, and everything. It's a mere coincidence that buildings 41 and 43
happen to have been built where they lie. I'll write more when I get back
from the Don't Panic Executive Briefing Center.
I pre-ordered the first 2 seasons of Family Guy a few
months ago and have been waiting by the door for it every since. It finally
released and arrived at said door early last week. I've just about made it
through season 1 (which I haven't seen in a few years) and it's just as awesome
as I remember. I highly recommend it (although I'm probably supposed to put some
legal jargon about how this is not an endorsement from my employer or whatever).
Anyway, it's pretty cheap off Amazon and makes a great Mother's Day
gift.
If my girlfriend asks, I
worked all weekend.
I'm looking for a bunch of new art for the Dimensions
game. In particular, we need 20x20 map cells (forests, houses, castles),
although these could be 20x40, 40x40, etc, and be cut up into multiple
cells. We also need 20x20 images of game characters, 30x30 images of creatures,
and 40x40 images of items (weapons, armors, potions, etc)and spells
(fireballs, lightning, etc). If you'd like to contribute non-copyrighted work
for this public effort, either email me at EdKaim@Microsoft.com or join the
workspace.
Posted on the workspace. There should be a link over
there -->
We had the official "Game 1" in my roller hockey league
last night. It was a lot of fun, although I'm getting a harsh lesson on how
out-of-shape I really am. We were down 3-1 after the first half (there are
halves in roller hockey) so I offered to help out on defense [offered to not
have to move around so much]. Ironically it gave me a few great scoring
opporunities, and I was able to tie the game with two goals late in the half.
Unfortunately I got a penalty for calling the ref a %$@* (or maybe it was a
%*#&?) after he didn't call a high stick that hit me in the face. They
didn't score on the power play, but ended up scoring around 5 seconds later, so
it was pretty much my fault. We lost 4-3, but it was a fun game. Maybe next game
I can move back to goalie and have a hattrick.
I just noticed that a link to my blog is now on http://blogs.gotdotnet.com/. I guess
people may actually know about it now, so I'd better start keeping it full of
fun info.
