Hooray!

I'm going to China for the first time. Blogging may not happen over the next few days (but you can continue yours, if applicable).

Fresh From The Paving & Fencing Department

I've recently moved into a new home with a portion of the backyard prepared for a small sport court. The problem is that it's not yet paved and not fenced in (it's hard to explain how it's been "prepared" but you'd understand if you saw it).

I've looked around the Internet for general estimates on how much it costs to pave a square foot and also for an idea on how much 6'-12' fence is per foot, but I haven't had any luck. I can understand if the companies don't want to make any commitments to pricing, but I'd like to get an idea before I get my hopes up.

Has anyone priced similar stuff? The area is 44x28 (1232 sq ft).

I'm Taking An Official Stance: Blogging Is Overhyped

I keep seeing so many people say how innovative and revolutionary blogging is. I find it hard not to laugh when I see articles talking about how blogging is going to change the face of the industry and blah blah blah.

I'm still thinking a bit more about the business implications of the platform on which blogging is enabled, so I'll leave supporting ideas to a future entry.

I'm obviosuly not against blogs in general (although I am against some of them individually :-) but I think it should be pretty obvious that blogs are overhyped when people start speculating on how they will change the face of every industry forever.

Muhahaha

I bought a digital camcorder over the weekend, and it just arrived. It's tiny and cheap, but the recording quality is fairly low (which I don't really care about). Check it out here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009RA3H/qid=1064347616/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/002-5833857-4815268. Thanks to all who sent recommendations.

Stay tuned for goodness :-)

Godfather Trivia

I was watching the "extras" DVD that came with the Godfather trilogy set and learned a bunch of new things. One of the cool things about being the director is that you can put all sorts of Easter eggs, etc, into the movie. Noodle this one for a while:

In Godfather I, the last act of the movie centers around the baptism of Michael's nephew, with Michael being the Godfather. The baby used in the scene is Sophia Copolla, Francis Ford Copolla's daughter. Then, in Godfather III, Sophia Copolla plays Michael's daughter and hooks up with her first cousin, who is actually the full grown version of the baby she played in the first movie.

She's also in the second movie, but it's just as an uncontroversial extra.

Blogrolls Are For Bloggers!

I've cut the academic folks from my blogroll due to the fact they never blog.

I've also added Eric Sink, but he's being added "on probation" because he hasn't blogged in over two weeks.

Quite A Dilemma

Should I pay for a return plane ticket from China or just try to get deported?

It's not a work trip, so my options are more open...

Your One Stop Shop For "The More You Know"

It turns out that I get a lot of hits from people searching Google for "the more you know". I'm actually the #4 site, whereas NBC.com is #1. I hope they haven't trademarked the phrase.

This entry should move me up a little more.

Hooray For The Humane Society

I adopted my cat (Superfly) from the humane society two years ago today. His biggest claim to fame is probably that his picture has ended up in many mobile development presentations, including the VSLive! Orlando keynote in 2002 where we announced Beta 2 of the .NET Compact Framework. Maybe next time he can be on stage.
