I'm Taking An Official Stance: Blogging Is Overhyped

I keep seeing so many people say how innovative and revolutionary blogging is. I find it hard not to laugh when I see articles talking about how blogging is going to change the face of the industry and blah blah blah.

I'm still thinking a bit more about the business implications of the platform on which blogging is enabled, so I'll leave supporting ideas to a future entry.

I'm obviosuly not against blogs in general (although I am against some of them individually :-) but I think it should be pretty obvious that blogs are overhyped when people start speculating on how they will change the face of every industry forever.

I agree. Blogging is a form of expression and not about business/commerce and/or profits. Some might argue that their rss aggregators are "for profit" but generally I think people frown on the concept of making money off of blogging.

They said this about the Web browser as well, and they were right, but they were also very very wrong, you know?

I think the true value of blogging will surface when we get the blogs weaved together in a meaningful way (call it 'Semantic Web', etc...)
