My wife and I went out to breakfast this morning at Redmond Town Center, which is a little sort-of-outdoor-mall in the middle of Redmond. On our way there we found that some of the roads had been blocked off for a "special event". After breakfast we walked around for a while trying to figure out what was going on. A few minutes later a few police cars and fire trucks came through the main road at parade speed, followed by a handful of cars with young kids waving to the crowd. It turns out that this was the "welcome home" parade for the Redmond little league baseball team, who had just returned from the international playoffs. Although they didn't win it all, they did get a hometown parade, to play in a game televised on ESPN, and, if it matters to you, meet the president of the United States. Those memories are going to be with them for the rest of their lives. Way to go!
For those who don't follow little league baseball religiously, ESPN details are at http://sports.espn.go.com/extra/llws/index?page=schedule/standings.
SPOILER: Curacao won it. Yeah, I had to MapPoint them too.
