An Interesting Opinion

I don't agree, but maybe I'm missing something--thoughts?

Those sound like the ramblings of a raving lunatic. There's probably a boatload of NT code still in XP and Windows 2003. Might as well open source those OS's as well.

Exactly. This guy really longs for Windows NT? Geez maybe we would all be better off if he just stuck to Linux. Sounds like an end run to open source the WIN32 API to me.

That's just what MS needs, open sourcing a code base that was first released 10 years ago and probably started 15 years ago. Perfect fooder for all the Microsoft bashing open source zealots to point out how bad the code is without having to compare it to Linux code base circa 1995.

It's a neat idea that will never happen.

As Senkwe says, much of that code is still used in the current versions of Windows, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.

It would, however, be a Windows developer's dream :)

there are a bunch of folks who just love to poke at anything microsoft does, this goofball is part of that pack.

they can't get anything right....

and they have no clue what's going on.

other than they do know that there are still a lot of NT 4.0 boxes out there that are going to have to be retired soon.

like a guy I do stuff for who has an nt 4 terminal server and citrix 1.8

it looks like all he needs is 2003 and cals
we can't see any reason so far for him to buy the new citrix stuff.

he is upgrading now cuase new printers don't work and new versions of software won't install.
