Ok....so...I've been busy......

I haven't posted in a while because life's been very very busy lately. I'm preparing for the Microsoft MVP Summit. But before this there was DevDays, and I've been working on the INETA webcast challenge that is coming up. That's going to be a very exciting event. I'm planning to attend as many of the sessions as I can get away with. I've also been trying to coordinate things on this DVD project I'm working on for INETA. Things are shaping up nicely in that department, and I'm planning to shoot a ton of footage at the MVP Summit.

More to come...............

Can I take a nap now? PLEASE!!!????

I'm worn OUT!! We did the DevDays thing on Monday. We went to Nashville a day early to have dinner with our awesome MS folks. All of the Nashville DevDays presenters were there, and a few of us MVP's, user group leaders, etc. etc. We had a fantastic time! It was a great social event, and a chance to get to know everyone a little better.

The next day we got up very early to set up our INETA user groups booth. We had some representation throughout the day from 6 different regional user groups from Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. We all had a great time, gave away prizes, and ejoyed the sessions. At the end, we packed up and made the drive back home. I was dead tired. But it didn't end there.

The next day was back to work, followed by our local .NET user group meeting. We were a little short handed on UG leaders to setup and break down before and after the meeting. I was REALLY tired now. I went home and passed out after all that. Getting up out of bed on Wednesday was the LAST thing I wanted to do. But I managed to push through.

I had a great interview with Jon Box while we were there. Now I've got to get it into the computer and edit it. It will look great on the next INETA Starter Kit.

Back to work.....................................

How smart are you?

Someone posted this link and I gave it a try:

Now it's your turn! Check it out and tell me what you get. Then I'll tell you what I scored.

Till then,

New Idea.........SOMEONE STEAL THIS QUICK!!

How's this for an idea?

I'm tired of having to always add terms to my MS Word dictionary like “DevDays”. It annoys me to see the little red underline under terms like that. I think MS should provide some kind of dictionary update that includes these terms. TechEd. DevDays, etc. etc. Maybe even automate it. How about some kind of dictionary updater program or RSS feed or something? People could subscribe to the dictionary updates that apply to the type of work that they do.

Is this crazy? Does this already exist?

What do you think?

This reads like a fortune cookie!!

I got some of these Microsoft Yo-Yo's to give out as prizes at the upcoming DevDays event where I'll be working in an exhibitor booth. I hadn't taken the time to actually read what was printed on the packaging. I handed someone here at work one of these things, and he started chuckling. He then pointed it out to me: “This Sporting Yo-Yo brings you Happy Time!” I got cracked up at it too. It's like something you might find over at www.engrish.com. Check it out:

Getting Ramped up for DevDays -- WHY do I do it????

With less than one week to go, DevDays is becoming more of a reality for me. I'm really looking forward to it.

Will I be presenting any sessions? Nope. Will I be attending any sessions? Nope. What the heck am I doing there? I'll be working an exhibition booth all day. Microsoft donated exhibition booths for INETA member user groups. So I have been coordinating an effort between 5 different user groups in Tennessee and Alabama to all come together and represent our groups in the booth.

It's a ton of fun, and it is a great opportunity to hang out with other user group leaders and see what they are doing with the .NET community in their area. Most importantly, it's a great opportunity to meet new people, and promote our groups and INETA. I worked a similar booth back in October at the Office Launch event in Nashville, TN. I met a great guy there who had not heard of INETA, and was interested in starting a .NET user group in his area. Since then he has started his group and he will be joining us in the booth next week. That makes it ALL worth the hard work. THAT is why I do it.

Some people can't understand why I would want to take a day off from work to pack up my car with TONS of stuff, leave out at 5:00 a.m., drive for 2 hours to unpack it all, and stand at a table all day. Then I get to pack it all back up, sit in rush hour traffic for about 1 1/2 hours, then finally get to the interstate and make the 2 hour drive home. Do we get paid for this? Nope. It's all for the love of our user groups. It's all about community building.
