Chalk up one for the good guys in the SPAM wars!

Way to go Lycos!!!

From CNN:

" MADRID, Spain (AP) -- At the risk of breaching Internet civility, Lycos Europe is offering computer-users a weapon against spam-spewing servers: a screen-saver program that automatically hits the offenders with data to slow them down. "

Talk about crazed ramblings. Shame you've not kept up on the four days news since that, when Lycos Europe closed the website, putting up a splash screen only, and took links to it off their homepage. Perhaps a late attack of conscience and recognition that DOS is immoral no matter who the target?

Yuck! I think your heart is bleeding all over my blog!!

"DOS is immoral no matter who the target" ????

In this case, I would have to disagree. SPAM is a nuisance that we all put up with. I for one, am glad see someone make an attempt at striking back.

And no, I haven't kept up. I've been busy. I was able to spend some quality time with the family this weekend, and watch a little football. While I do find stories like this to be a thing of interest, I don't "follow" them all the time.

DDOS is illegal - that's why the Lycos screensaver tried not to do this...unfortunately it did and also caused a lot more problems (like the Spammer who simply pointed his DNS back at Lycos). This type of solution will never really work.

Alrighty then. What's the solution? Should the responsibility always fall on the poor recipient to filter everything? Is there a better way to fight fire with fire?
