RANDOM RAMBLINGS from my life experiences...
RANDOM RAMBLINGS:::

RAMBLING 1:
After 2 and half years of ASP.NET, I'm ready for something a little different. Luckily, it appears that our corporate standard is pushing towards the Smart Client model for apps. That'll be a nice change for me.

RAMBLING2:
I've randomly seen the acronym AJAX floating around the web. I had no idea what it was, and I've been too busy to care to find out. Then someone pointed out yesterday that it's the stuff that we've been doing for over 3 years now. Woohoo! Passing good ol' XML around with XMLHTTP and Javascript. Yippie! But suddenly someone wrapped an acronym around it, and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Who knew? But I'm sure it's not that simple. I'm sure it must involve some techniques and standards integrating .NET.

RAMBLING 3:
I also went to talk to a teammate the other day, and as I walked down the isle, I looked into two of the cubes that were once occupied by former teammates. (One was a victim of layoffs, the other left for more money.) Mind you, it hasn't been long since either of them left. Now.......don't get me wrong here........but I was a little perturbed when I discovered that those two cubes were now occupied by 2 more indian contractors. It's hard to remain objective about outsourcing when you see a teammate that was a single parent / hard worker let go in a staff reduction, only to see that same seat occupied by a foreign contractor shortly thereafter. To be quite frank, it ticks me off. I know that the contractor works for another team, and that they were just using an empty seat, but it still bugs me.

As a husband and father of 2 in a single income household, I do whatever I can to make sure that my family is taken care of. But it is difficult to maintain any feeling of security in a world of corporate layoffs and IT outsourcing.
